The purpose of Yoga is the realization of the inner potential

Yoga is an ancient science, which has always been part of the effort to discover and harmonize strong and positive qualities in the human personality. Yoga is a way of thinking, a philosophy and a method of understanding, evaluating and accepting life. It is also a system of practices, through which we can unite qualities of the body, intellect and emotions, so that we can start living our lives with greater awareness. Yoga also gives us the opportunity to experience different states of vitality and relaxation and in a most natural way to develop and awaken our inner potential.

Paramahamsa Satyananda has always talked about the importance of this awakening: "Everything is in you. This microcosm in the body reflects the macrocosm of the creation outside. Everyone, rich or poor, comes with that consciousness. It is hidden in every individual regardless of his/her religious beliefs, cultural background and origin.

We tell our children that there is a power, sleeping potently in them. To awaken that power is the goal of your life. Besides joy and sorrow there is one more thing in life - how much can a man do, how much can he think, how much can he give? Man is potentially very powerful in this age. But to awaken this power you have to go inside yourself. If you could go even a little into yourself , you can achieve so much. Just ten minutes of internalization can open the higher level of consciousness. Lower consciousness can be transcended and higher levels can be attained by everyone."

Throughout history, it has always been the aim of philosophers and scientists to discuss and ponder over questions regarding the realization and understanding of the human potential. In a similar way, nowadays, we discover that Yoga is an extremely gentle way of approaching and experiencing life in its totality. It fills a gap in our life.

According to Swami Niranjan, "Yoga's greatest contribution is that it gives us the ability to better understand the connection between the spiritual and the material dimension of human personality."
